Jake One – The Truth (feat. Brother Ali & Freeway)[Single]

Man, oh man. After hearing this track I can’t say how excited I am about Jake’s new Rhymesayers release (White Van Music due out October 7th). For those who don’t know Jake One has been the man behind the boards for everybody from MF Doom and De La Soul to 50 Cent & Nas. I mean damn… who didn’t love Rock Co. Cane Flow? His album is slated to feature underground & mainstream legends alike and with his ability to get cats who would have otherwise never worked together on the same track, this is going to be ill. Check this track out for a taste of what I’m talking about. Ill ass collabo. Fucking crazy…

Cool Calm Pete – Gitty Up Baby [Single] (2008)

Finally a new Cool Calm Pete track. I’ve been fiending for some new Pete shit ever since I heard his 2005 release (Lost the Album) and although I bought and enjoyed his CD of loosies, I was looking for more. This track hits the spot for now, but only makes me want to hear his new LP Leonard Z (which is supposed to drop later this year). Check the track and buy the album when it drops.

DJ I-Dee ft. Jean Grae & Wreckonize – The Right [Video]

DJ I-Dee hit me up with this one himself. Good production and although I’m not really feeling the video too much the track itself is a hit. JG murders the track and Wreck does his thing too. Peep the video and download the single below.

Statik Selektah – Spell My Name Right/Stick 2 The Script’s First Single

I had this album in my first post for CTR, but I don’t think anybody read it. I try and get as many people as possible on to this album, so I have to throw it up again. Statik Selektah is easily in my top 3 favorite producers and his new album, Stick 2 The Script is at the top of my highly anticipated list.  Here is the first single from that album also.

New Common Market Single “Tobacco Road”

This is the first single from Common Market’s upcoming sophomore LP by the same title (September 9, 2008). I really enjoyed their first self-titled album (which I bought, because Breeze supports indie artists) as well as the EP they dropped earlier this year (Black Patch War EP) and this single is a good sign that this release will be worthwhile as well. Keep checking back for the new album and and as always if you like it, buy it when it drops. For fans of Gabriel Teodros, Move.meant, and Blue Scholars.

btw… did anybody else notice last.fm is different?

Cunninlynguists – Dirty Acres (2007) + Single

Man to be truthful, I slept on this one when it first came out… hell, I slept on the Cunninlynguists for a long ass time, but ever since I heard 07’s 3rd best album (Below the Heavens is number 1 & The Undisputed Truth is 2nd) I’ve been trying to compile the physical copies of their entire collection. Anyway this is probably one of the best underground groups from the south or anywhere in general so peep the preview track, download the album and if you like it, buy it here. For fans of Outkast, Devin the Dude, & Little Brother.

Vakill – Worst Fears Confirmed (2005)

Label mate of Astonish, here’s the darker, more sinister side of Chicago’s Molemen collective. The only way I can think of describing Va is like the lovechild of Jay-Z and an oldschool DMX (no homo)… but better. Check the singles and decide for yourself. Dude is ill. As always if you download it and enjoy it, buy it here.

Consequence – Don’t Quit Your Day Job (2007) + Don’t Forget ‘Em Video

A Tribe Called Quest protégé, Kanye West label signee, Consequence is the type of MC who easily appeals to fans who appreciate the new and old school Native Tongues appeal. He’s recently gained a bit of attention and mainstream play for his latest record, Don’t Quit Your Day Job, but he never waters his material down with filler or bubblegum.

Asamov (aka The ABs) – And Now… (2005)

I originally slept on this one when it came out, but it’s def worth the listen. These cats (who recently changed their name to The ABs from Asamov) from Florida will really take you back to the mid 90s and put you in the mind of groups like De La Soul. They were featured on the A3C mixtape a while back with this crazy joint called “Boombox” which I posted the single of. If you like the track check the entire album (guest apperances by 9th Wonder, Akrobatik, Mr. Lif, Wordsworth, J-Live, & Cassidy).

Cool Calm Pete – Lost The Album (2005)

If you checked out that Babbletron album I posted a while back, then you’re familiarized with Cool Calm Pete… if not, get familiar. This is Pete’s critically acclaimed ’05 Def Jux release (on of my favorite albums of all time). When it camed out it was widely praised for the panaromic views Pete tends to paint of his city and surroundings, Pete’s lazy, but always interesting flow, as well as Pete’s use of traditional Korean samples in his production. Great album, I can say enough about it and I also can’t wait for his 08 release. Download the album, listen to the album, buy the album.

O.C. – Word…Life: Re-Issue (1994)[Classic]

This album was majorly slept on when it originally dropped in 1994 and is still being slept on ’til this day. Of course 1994 was the year for classic hip-hop albums, so if you’re feeling that entire time period (especially for NY cats) this album is going to blow you away. I’ve posted 2 of my favorite tracks from the album, but you should def peep the grouprip I’ve posted as well. For fans of Black Moon, Masta Ace, D.I.T.C., and Kool G Rap. Word…life.

Aesop Rock + MF Doom = DoomRock?

Okay, okay, so no it hasn’t really been confirmed, but seriously… wouldn’t it be dope? I mean I’ve been listening to the Prefuse 73 produced Blacklist a lot lately, and I can’t help but think it’d probably be the best match for Doom besides Ghostface. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking, anyway peep the track if you haven’t heard it before.

Busy P & Murs – To Protect & Entertain (Single)

Binkis Recs – Badwire Pt. 1 & 2

I can’t say enough good things about these cats. The Binkis Recs is a trio originally hailing from NYC, but current headed in Atlanta. They take it back to NY’s glory days and will put you in the mind of Wu-Tang, MF Grimm and the likes. Remember if you’re sleeping, you’re losing.

The Roots Rising Down Loosies & Video

I was brought up on The Roots so it goes without saying I’m a huge fan and can’t wait for Rising Down (yes I’ll actually buy it) If you’re fiending for the follow-up to Game Theory as much as I am, I’m here to provide you with temporary relief. Here are 4 tracks (sorry, not the greatest quality) from the new roots album as well as the music video to a song which was unexplicably cut . Rising Down is slated to drop on the 29th of this month so hopefully these’ll last you until then.

Nujabes-Sky is Falling (feat. C.L. Smooth)

Nujabes-Sky is Falling (feat. C.L. Smooth)

Ok my name is something2die4 a.k.a. Ace, a.k.a. King_Of_Spades. checktherhime is THE future of the blog world and we are going to bring you (the world) great music/hiphop that has been thrown under the rug by the industry for the past decade.

Nujabes is a Japanese producer/DJ….to me he is one of the greatest producers that has ever touched the music/hiphop scene. To introduce him to everyone that doesn’t know who he is I’m posting one of my favorite songs from him that he did with C.L. Smooth. When I listen to his music (Nujabes) it makes me think about the past, present and the future. You can call it soul music. 😉

Dizzee Rascal: Still Grime-y (3 Tracks)

Another test post:

In my search for sites to add RSS Feeds from, I was disappointed that

Okayplayer still does not have up their RSS Feed (it really is long overdue ?uest), but I was pleasantly surprised at the site’s new facelift. Okayplayer always has some of the best news from the conscious music scene and is also good about greenlighting promising cats, so check them out. Here’s an Okayplayer interview from the UK’s own Dizzee Rascal. I’ve been into dude for about two years now (you might remember him from the 2007 BET Awards show cypher), but he’s making his US debut with the album titled Maths & English on Definitive Jux April 29th (got released in Europe ages ago).
